The Owl Door of Copenhagen (October 2025 Door of the Month)

A whimsical wooden door is carved to resemble the face and feathers of an owl, complete with two dark, round eyes. The door is set within a dark gray arched frame on a white stucco building. The house number "4" is visible to the right, and a small olive tree in a wicker basket stands next to the door.

The Owl Door is one of the most famous in the world. I’d seen pictures of it over the years on social media but never really paid attention to where it was.

Then, one of the members of my Doors, Glorious Doors subreddit posted a picture of it. The photo was labeled “Copenhagen” and serendipitously, the post landed just before I departed on a trip to Scandinavia this summer.

I was planning to spend my birthday in Copenhagen and I thought that paying a visit to the Owl Door would be the perfect birthday present to give myself.

I did some research and discovered that the Owl Door lives in Hellerup which was just a 10 minute bus ride from Nordhavn.

I took Bus 164 to Tuborg Boulevard (Strandvejen) and then walked about 5 minutes to Tingskiftevej. The Owl Door is visible from the street.

I was beside myself with excitement when I saw this spectacular and whimsical entrance. How could I not declare this beautiful wildlife inspired entrance Door of the Month? Happy Birthday to me…🎂🥳🎁
