The Midlands near Athlone are definitely a less touristed part of Ireland. I spotted this green gate on a trip to Birr.
Birr is most well-known as a highly preserved Georgian town with a castle that was once home to the world’s largest Victorian-era telescope. However, if you take time to do a photowalk around the streets of Birr, I think you’ll be delighted with what you’ll find.
Birr is one of the places I recommend stopping to stretch your legs on a Dublin to Dingle road trip.
